Winnie the Pooh (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) Winnie the Pooh (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)
List Price: $44.99
Sale Price: $23.89

Author A.A. Milne's beloved bear, Winnie the Pooh, joins forces with his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood to help two of their own in Disney's hand-drawn charmer. Though he describes himself as a "bear of very little brain," Pooh (Jim Cummings) proves he's all heart when sad-sack Eeyore's tail goes missing and a terrible creature called the "Backson" abducts Christopher Robin (Jack Boulter), their human protector (the schoolboy actually leaves a note saying he will be "back soon"). Granted, our hero spends the entire journey dreaming about glorious pots of "hunny," but when push comes to shove, he prioritizes his pals over his tummy, which rumbles and expands as his hunger pangs increase. Wisely, co-directors Don Hall and Stephen J. Anderson avoid the distraction of instantly recognizable actors in favor of animation veterans, like Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), who voices the resourceful Rabbit. While Sebastian Cabot narrated the Winnie featurettes of yore, comedian John Cleese, who sometimes speaks directly to Pooh, ably steps into his shoes, and talk-show host Craig Ferguson also makes a mark as the know-it-all Owl. At 68 minutes, not including short film "The Ballad of Nessie," this John Lasseter-produced feature should captivate most young viewers, even those accustomed to faster-paced, computer-animated features, like Lasseter's directorial efforts for Pixar. Musician M. Ward and singer/actress Zooey Deschanel of the band She & Him add to the old-fashioned charm with their retro-sounding songs. And be sure to stay through the closing credits for the funny surprise at the end. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

The next time somebody tells you they don't make any good movies for the entire family anymore, just say, "Pooh!" This charming animated feature finds Winnie the Pooh reunited with Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, and Roo on a mission to rescue young Christopher Robin and recover Eeyore's missing tail. Includes six all-new songs and a new version of Winnie's theme performed by Zooey Deschanel. Stars the voices of Jim Cummings, Bud Luckey, and Jack Boutler; narrated by John Cleese. 63 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; bonus shorts "The Ballad of Nessie" (2011), more; deleted scenes; featurette; sing-along songs; bonus digital copy. Also includes a DVD version of the film. Three-disc set.

Duchess and her three kittens are enjoying the high life with their devoted human mistress until the wicked butler Edgar, with his eyes on a big inheritance, decides to dope them and get them out of the picture. How can these fragile creatures cope in the unfamiliar countryside and the meaner streets of Paris? Only by meeting the irrepressible alley cat O'Malley, a rough diamond with romance in his heart. After they get a taste of the wide dangerous world, he guides them home, and Edgar gets his just desserts at the wrong end of a horse. As always, it's really the voices rather than the animation that are the heart of the Disney magic: Phil Harris is brilliant as O'Malley, Eva Gabor as Duchess is... well... Eva Gabor; but perhaps the most memorable turns are by Pat Buttram and George Lindsay, who turn the old hounds Napoleon and Lafayette into a couple of bumbling Southern-fried rednecks. Their scenes with Edgar, and the musical numbers with Scat Cat and his cool-dude band, are classic. Most striking about seeing The Aristocats now is how deeply Disney's style of animation has changed since this was at the cutting edge in 1970. Perhaps the nostalgic, dated feel are just a result of being plonked down in Belle Epoque Paris, but the illustrations are fussier (a pity) and the animation and overall pace much less frenetic (sometimes a relief) than in more recent efforts such as Aladdin. --Richard Farr

Can a 21-year-old African prince find happiness and the girl of his dreams while working incognito at a fast food restaurant in Queens? If the prince is Eddie Murphy, then the answer is a hilarious "yes," as you'll see in this hit comedy. Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones also star. 116 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital stereo Surround, French Dolby Digital stereo Surround; Subtitles: English, Spanish, Portuguese; featurettes; photo gallery; theatrical trailer.

Half of the characters in this 1988 John Landis potboiler seem to be played either by Eddie Murphy or costar Arsenio Hall, swaddled in elaborate Rick Baker makeup appliances that render them unrecognizable but also weirdly immobile. As a pampered African prince who journeys incognito to Queens, New York, to find a bride who will love him just for himself, Murphy manages to look smug and naive at the same time. There are enjoyable sequences of Murphy's Prince Akeem applying his lordly manner to his new job in a fast-food emporium, and falling for the boss's spirited daughter (Shari Headley), who teaches him how to party down, American style. But the fish-out-water premise is never fully exploited. Star spotters will have a field day locating Cuba Gooding Jr., Donna Summer, Louie Anderson, Vondie Curtis Hall, E.R.'s Eriq La Salle, and Samuel L. Jackson in their minuscule supporting roles. --David Chute

The X-Files: The Complete First Season The X-Files: The Complete First Season
List Price: $39.98
Sale Price: $16.45

In the first season of The X-Files, creator Chris Carter was uncertain of the series' future, so each of the episodes is a self-contained suspense story; they do not delve deep into the ongoing X-Files mythology or turn to self-parody and humor as do episodes in later seasons. Yet, these episodes display the elements for which the show would become famous: the cinematic production values and top-notch special effects, the stark lighting of the Vancouver sets, the atmospheric halo of Mark Snow's score, and the clever plots dealing with subjects ranging from the occult, religion, and monsters to urban legends, conspiracy theories, and science fiction. Most importantly, season 1 introduces FBI agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox "Spooky" Mulder (David Duchovny), two of the most attractive government officials around. Scully is the serious-minded medical scientist assigned to join Mulder on the X-Files, a division of the FBI dealing with the paranormal. Mulder is the intuitive thinker with a dry wit, a passionate believer in the existence of paranormal phenomena and one of the few characters on television smart enough to figure out who the bad guy is before the audience does. Their muddled relationship, a deep friendship laced with sexual tension, provides the human heart in a world where the bizarre and horrible lurk in everyday society. Those unfamiliar with The X-Files often view all the fuss with the same skepticism with which Scully first regards her new partner's ideas. But just as she comes to realize the uncanny accuracy of Mulder's outlandish theories, newcomers to The X-Files who sample a few episodes in this boxed set will likely find themselves riveted to their television late into the night. And undoubtedly, the shadows and creaking noises in the house that evening will seem more menacing than usual. --Eugene Wei

All 24 episodes from the series's debut season--including the pilot, "Deep Throat," "Ice," "E.B.E.," and "Tooms"--are collected in a six-disc set. 18 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital stereo, French Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English, Spanish. **24 episodes on 6 discs. 18 hrs.**

List Price: $18.98
Sale Price: $13.17

When was the last time you heard a musical with a truly hilarious book? Rachel Sheinkin has concocted such a thing for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, one of the most unexpected hits of 2005. Unfortunately, Sheinkin's wit is mostly lost on a cast album; fortunately, the show's songs are by the great William Finn. Set at the titular event, the musical never looks down on the competiting kids (played by adult actors), instead portraying them as endearingly nerdy but also smart, and endowing them with real personalities rather than predictably spelling-bee tics. The cast is uniformly superb, although personal faves include Sarah Saltzberg, playing Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre with a delicious lisp ("Woe Is Me"); Jesse Tyler Ferguson, bringing sweet innocence to Leaf Coneybear ("I'm Not That Smart"); and Dan Fogler, in a breakout comic performance as William Barfee ("Magic Foot," sounding like a sly tribute to Kander & Ebb). This show may be small in scale, but it's a huge winner. --Elisabeth Vincentelli Other Great Musicals of the Season Spamalot Dirty Rotten Scoundrels The Light in the Piazza Little Women All Shook Up Altar Boyz

List Price: $17.98
Sale Price: $7.99

Amazing Grace, a compilation of well-known gospel standards, brings together some of country music's brightest stars. From Lari White's understated delivery of the title track to Martina McBride's mandolin led version of "How Great Thou Art" to the Charlie Daniels Band's soulful rendering of "Kneel at the Cross," Amazing Grace is a real treat for fans of both secular country music and white Southern gospel. Accompanied by a full band including a bittersweet fiddle and a steel guitar, Paul Overstreet kicks up the tempo with "A Mansion Over the Hilltop," while Shenandoah's "Beulah Land" recalls both Glen Campbell's take on high-lonesome balladry as well as the tight harmonies of Alabama. And sung by the sweetest voices of the genre, two of the loveliest tracks on the record are born of the bluegrass gospel tradition: "I'd Rather Have Jesus" and "Precious Memories," performed by Alison Krauss and the Cox Family and Emmylou Harris, respectively. --Paige La Grone

10 gospel and spiritual songs compiled for the benefit of the Gospel Music Association. Alison Krauss, Lari White, CDB, Shenandoah etc. A couple light marks on disc will not affect play.

Amazon Best Books of the Month, November 2011: Sublimely curious, strangely serious, terrifyingly hilarious--the 14 new short stories by authors Stephen King, Lois Lowry, Walter Dean Myers and other bestselling storytellers in Chris Van Allsburg’s The Chronicles of Harris Burdick are a perfect match for the unexplained drawings that inspired them: the beloved, eerie black and white images, accompanied only by a title and caption, in The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, originally published by Allsburg in 1984. What could have been a basic writing exercise in the hands of these professionals unfolds as thoughtful, intriguing tales only masters could tell. With an introduction by Lemony Snicket, the stories close the loop on the mysterious drawings, but if they aren’t up to readers’ satisfaction, it can merely serve as another reason to gaze upon Allsburg’s layered pictures once again, 27 years later. --Alexandra Foster

For more than twenty-five years, the illustrations in the extraordinary Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg have intrigued and entertained readers of all ages. Thousands of children have been inspired to weave their own stories to go with these enigmatic pictures. Now we’ve asked some of our very best storytellers to spin the tales. Enter The Chronicles of Harris Burdick to gather this incredible compendium of stories: mysterious, funny, creepy, poignant, these are tales you won’t soon forget. This inspired collection of short stories features many remarkable, best-selling authors in the worlds of both adult and children's literature: Sherman Alexie, M.T. Anderson, Kate DiCamillo, Cory Doctorow, Jules Feiffer, Stephen King, Tabitha King, Lois Lowry, Gregory Maguire, Walter Dean Myers, Linda Sue Park, Louis Sachar, Jon Scieszka, Lemony Snicket, and Chris Van Allsburg himself. More than ever, the illustrations send off their eerie call for text and continue to compel and pick at the reader's brain for a backstory—a threaded tale behind the image. In this book, we've collected some of the best storytellers to spin them.

Why do you think that so many companies are now using free product samples in order to gain a larger customer base for their newer products? There is a very simple reason for the growing use of free sample advertising by so many different companies. These larger companies did not get where they are today by making bad business decisions. The fact is that free sample advertising is not only very cost effective but very useful if you are trying to gain a larger customer base. The truth is that there is a very simple reason why the public loves free samples, because they are free. This makes this particular type of advertising not only been official to larger companies but also to you and I, the public.

If we are to expect large companies to continue providing us with free product samples as a form of advertising, we must understand that in order for this to continue, it must be profitable for the companies that are using. These businesses are not just providing free product samples because of the fact that we love them but also in hopes that they will bring more customers and therefore more revenue. So the big question is, canned freebies truly help increase sales as well as keep customers happy?

If he is a concern to you that free product samples will not be around for much longer, you have nothing to fear. Many studies point to the fact that those who are introduced to a new products through free sample advertising were twice as likely to purchase that product as those were introduced to it via any other form of advertising. This information in itself is proof that free sample advertising is something that many large businesses can profit from.

The proof is in the information provided above, free product samples are mutually beneficial to everyone. There's no reason to believe that businesses will stop using this particular form of advertising anytime in the near future.

If you are interested in free stuff, you should really take a look at Free Product Samples.

Betting Guide to 2nd Test between England and West Indies

England have recalled Ian Bell and Ryan Sidebottom to their squad for the 2nd Test against West Indies starting on Thursday at Chester-le-Street in Durham. The hosts seem unlikely to change a winning team but the inclusion of Bell gives them the option of returning to the more favoured tactic of playing six batsmen.

Ryan Sidebottom meanwhile comes in at the expense of Monty Panesar with the selectors firmly of the opinion that an mid May Durham pitch is going to be more favourable to seam bowlers than spinners.  Panesar is also a victim of the form of Graeme Swann who it would now appear is England's premier spin bowler, add to that the fact that he is a handy lower order batsman and a more than competent fielder and England have found themselves a player in the mould of the never replaced Ashley Giles.

The prospect that at some stage later in the year against the Aussies, England might consider playing both their spinners is an exciting one. If they are going to go down the route of playing five bowlers then I don't see any reason why they couldn't partner the two spinners together as no new pace bowlers seem to be putting themselves forward. Graham Onions obviously did himself no harm last week but whether or not he's the answer remains to be seen.

England squad in full - Andrew Strauss (C), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Ian Bell, Matt Prior (WK), Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Graham Onions, Ryan Sidebottom

England are favourites with the bookmakers to win the 2nd Test at a best price of 10/11, West Indies are 6/1 and the draw is 7/4.  For free bets on this match see our betting guide website, these will be available to customers opening new accounts
