What is the demographic and psychographic of comic book readers?

I'm doing a research project for school and need some solid references of where to find what the demographic and psychographics are for comic book readers. Psychographics uses demographics to determine the attitudes and tastes of a particular segment of a population. These examine lifestyles: where people shop, how they spend their disposable income, which clubs/organizations they join, and more.

I don't think there is one. Comics are simply a medium. You can tell any story you wish to through comics, just as you can tell any story you wish to through film, theatre, opera, writing, hell even interpretive dance if that's your thing. You don't even have to tell a STORY, you can make it instructional. Those little cards on the airplane telling you what to do in emergencies? Take a close look, those are actually comics.

So asking "what type of person reads comics?" is like asking "what type of person watches movies?" or "reads books?" ALL types of people, from all walks of life do these things.

Now, there's a difference between medium and genre. Through the medium of Film, Books, Comics, et. al, you can tell stories in all sorts of genres like action, comedy, romance, etc. Many people automatically associate comic books with superheroes, which are a sub-genre, but that's no where near what all comics are. I could make a case for certain demographics being drawn to certain genres or sub-genres, but trying to apply specific demographics to a whole medium is a game of vagueness and, likely, LOTS of assumptions. Young people read comics, old people read comics, men read comics, women read comics. People with no friends read comics, people with lots of friends read comics.

It is an interesting topic, but you're going to be left to writing speculation. It's not the sort of topic you're going to find any real studies, polls, surveys, or any kind of legitimate sources for.
