Do Republicans realize that The Colbert Report is a parody?

I ask this because I have a friend who is very Republican and conservative and watches The Colbert Report religiously as if it were a reliable news show. I just think that is weird because the show is supposed to make fun of the way conservative Republicans interpret things. I don't know if Republicans realize this, I mean it is on Comedy Central!

I realize that it's a show that pokes fun at conservative talk shows. I don't take myself so seriously as to let such a show bother me. Have seen the show, and it is pretty funny at times.
