So, they let both Rex Harrison and Anthony Newley sing. This 1968 family musical is classier than the 1998 Eddie Murphy remake, with all of its scatological humor. This won a couple of Oscars (Best Song, Best Effects) and was nominated for seven more, including Best Picture. At the time of release, however, this was a box-office dud. Based (in part) on the magical Hugh Lofting book, it begins in Puddleby-by-the-Marsh, England, from which the world-renowned veterinarian Dolittle (Harrison) begins his quest for a giant pink sea snail. Children should find this enjoyable for its exotic creatures, such as the Pushme-Pullyou. Most adults may not agree as readily, although some of us consider this a guilty pleasure. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Rex Harrison is the 19th-century English doctor who embarks on a quest to learn the languages of animals and along the way meets such strange creatures as the two-headed Pushmi-Pullyu, the Great Pink Sea Snail, and Anthony Newley. Song-filled family gem, based on the stories of Hugh Lofting, also stars Samantha Eggar, Richard Attenborough. Songs include the Oscar-winning "If I Could Talk to the Animals," "My Friend the Doctor." 145 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 4.0, Dolby Digital stereo, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, Spanish; theatrical trailer.

This remastered, pan-and-scan 30th-anniversary edition of that kiddie-car caper is flawed but solid family fare. It retains a quaint charm while some of the songs--including the title tune--are quite hummable. A huge plus is Dick Van Dyke, who is extremely appealing as an eccentric inventor around the turn of the century. With nimble fingers and a unique way of looking at the world, he invents for his children a magic car that floats and flies. Or does he? The special effects are tame by today's standards, and the film is about 20 minutes too long--but its enthusiasm charms. The script was cowritten by Roald Dahl and based on the novel by Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond adventures. --Rochelle O'Gorman

The Wizard of Oz [VHS] The Wizard of Oz [VHS]
List Price: $8.98
Sale Price: $6.95

When it was released during Hollywood's golden year of 1939, The Wizard of Oz didn't start out as the perennial classic it has since become. The film did respectable business, but it wasn't until its debut on television that this family favorite saw its popularity soar. And while Oz's TV broadcasts are now controlled by media mogul Ted Turner (who owns the rights), the advent of home video has made this lively musical a mainstay in the staple diet of great American films. Young Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), her dog, Toto, and her three companions on the yellow brick road to Oz--the Tin Man (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), and the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger)--have become pop-culture icons and central figures in the legacy of fantasy for children. As the Wicked Witch who covets Dorothy's enchanted ruby slippers, Margaret Hamilton has had the singular honor of scaring the wits out of children for more than six decades. The film's still as fresh, frightening, and funny as it was when first released. It may take some liberal detours from the original story by L. Frank Baum, but it's loyal to the Baum legacy while charting its own course as a spectacular film. Shot in glorious Technicolor, befitting its dynamic production design (Munchkinland alone is a psychedelic explosion of color and decor), The Wizard of Oz may not appeal to every taste as the years go by, but it's required viewing for kids of all ages. --Jeff Shannon DVD features The Wizard of Oz DVD released in 1999 was loaded with extra features, but it's now safe to throw away that version in all its cardboard-package glory in favor of this new two-disc edition. First things first: All the bonus material from the earlier disc is there (with one small exception). That includes the Angela Lansbury-hosted documentary The Making of a Movie Classic; the outtakes and deleted scenes, including Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow" reprise and the home-movie recording of "The Jitterbug"; the sketches and stills and composer Harold Arlen's home movies; the audio underscores and radio programs; the 1979 interviews with Margaret Hamilton, Ray Bolger, and Jack Haley; and other items too numerous to mention. (Some text introductions to the features have been replaced by narration by Lansbury, for whatever reason.) Brand-new to the 2005 edition is a sharp restoration using Warner's Ultra Resolution process and an accompanying featurette on how it's done. The technicians also discuss how the sound was remixed, though that would have been more effective had it included surround-sound demonstrations (the featurette is in 2.0). Other features on the new set include a commentary track by critic John Fricke supplemented by vintage cast interviews (he offers a lot of trivia, and debunks the myth that Shirley Temple was ever close to getting the Dorothy role); profiles of nine cast members and clips of other movies they appeared in (including Toto); a lightly animated 10-minute storybook again narrated by Lansbury; 2001 and 2005 behind-the-scenes featurettes; and a 1950 Lux Radio Theater broadcast. Oh, and if you were still wondering about the missing material mentioned above--the 1999 disc included one-minute excerpts of three early treatments of The Wizard of Oz. Those excerpts are not included in the two-disc special edition, but the third disc of the three-disc collector's edition includes the complete versions of those treatments and more. --David Horiuchi

When a mail-order apprentice witch (Angela Lansbury) is saddled with three sibling refugees from London during World War II, the outlook is grim. But the kids soon discover her secret and sign on for adventure in the name of England. With the aid of a magical bed, they track down her fraudulent headmaster (David Tomlinson) to find the spell that will aid the Allies. Fascinated that she has actually achieved results with his lessons, he joins forces. The quintet does battle with corrupt booksellers, animated-lion royalty, and, eventually, invading Germans. Songs include Lansbury's Oscar-nominated "The Age of Not Believing." This film is often compared to director Robert Stevenson's earlier effort, Mary Poppins, and for good reason. In addition to Tomlinson, the movies share a fondness for magic at the hands of a good woman, light romance with an understanding male, and wide-eyed children. Stevenson also graces both films with interaction between humans and animated animals. Disney is wise to play up that aspect on its box this time around as both the underwater ball and the subsequent island soccer match are the most visually interesting and appealing parts of the film. Adults may find the 1971-vintage mixing of actors and animation a bit creaky, but kids used to a variety of animation quality will find the action a hoot. Ages 4 and up. The movie has been recut several times but was restored to the original length of 139 minutes for its 30th anniversary in 2001. --Kimberly Heinrichs

There is only one word that comes close to accurately describing the enchanting Mary Poppins, and that term was coined by the movie itself: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, Disney's pioneering mixture of live action and animation (based on the books by P.L. Travers) still holds kids spellbound. Julie Andrews won an Oscar as the world's most magically idealized nanny ("practically perfect in every way," and complete with lighter-than-air umbrella), and Dick Van Dyke is her clownishly charming beau, Bert the chimney sweep. The songs are also terrific, ranging from bright and cheery ("A Spoonful of Sugar") to dark and cheery (the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee") to touchingly melancholy ("Feed the Birds"). Many consider Mary Poppins to be the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's career--and it was the only one of his features to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award until Beauty and the Beast in 1991. --Jim Emerson

When mary poppins floats out of the london sky and into the lives of two playful children she and a carefree chimney sweeps named bert make every chore a game and every day an adventure. Filled with dazzling special effects and award-winning music. Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 09/14/2007 Starring: Julie Andrews David Tomlinson Run time: 139 minutes Rating: G

Don't get me wrong, I'm really not a train enthusiast. In fact I would usually run a mile to avoid using the railway or use my car instead, which is considerably cheaper and more reliable than rail travel, if not as fast (but that is another subject). And my idea of a train buff is a sad person (generally of the male persuasion) who really ought to get out more often and see a real side of life.

Having made clear my skeptical credentials clear, I feel it is only fair to say that I was both enjoyably surprised and really impressed by the experience we had on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and I felt very humble seeing what a group of really dedicated people had achieved even if I had previously put them in the sad category (I apologies unreservedly).

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is a miniature steam railway. Perfect in every way but on a smaller scale. It was first opened to traffic in July 1927 as the World's smallest public railway and now covers a total distance of thirteen and a half miles from the Port of Hythe, near the channel tunnel, to the fisherman's cottages and lighthouses, at Dungeness. The track is only 15 inches wide and the fleet of 14 trains, all built between 1925 and 1937, which operate on this track, are all one-third full size steam and diesel locomotives. They have been built to run safely at speeds of up to 25mph and they each have lovely evocative names such as Green Goddess, the Bug, Samson, Winston Churchill and Black Prince.

These are very real locomotives. They are real steam engines designed to do a real job and in no sense are they to be considered as toys or the sort of tacky fairground trains that you see at family attractions or theme parks.

Steam trains have always had a fascination for children, and even now, many decades after the end of working steam trains, any young child will describe a real train as a steam engine. The number of privately restored and privately operated railways is a testament to the nature of lasting respect we have for the steam engine and the vision they engender in our imaginations. I am old enough to remember when they operated on all out railways and the sight and sound of them rushing towards when you stood on a bridge above the railway was a memorable experience. We probably have the Rev. W. V. Awdry, author of Thomas the tank engine to thank for that but never the less it shows how emotive steam trains were. I have to admit at this point, that the Thomas the Tank Engine books were one of my favourite books as a young child, and their continued popularity is an indication of the respect we still have for steam locomotives.

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway was the result of the dreams of two men; Captain J. E. P. Howey, a millionaire land owner and Count Louis Zborowski, who was famous for owning the Chitty Bang Bang Mercedes. Both men were also racing drivers.

They both wanted to build a fully working express railway and the Count ordered two pacific locomotives (Green Goddess and Northern Chief), to run on the 15 inch gauge rails. These were designed by Henry Greenly of Colchester who worked for Davey, Paxman and Co. Before they were delivered however, the Count was killed in a race at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix. Howey was now left with two locomotives and the problem of finding somewhere to run them. It was decided that Romney Marsh was the ideal location and the official opening took place on 16th July 1927, with Hercules hauling the first train from Hythe to New Romney.

The experience of traveling on one of the most evocative trains in the World, through the Kent countryside is well worth the effort of suppressing ones prejudices. Even I, a very dedicated critic and railway skeptic, found myself really enjoying the experience and despite my entrenched skepticism. I have to admit it, I would recommend this attraction to all visitors to the area.

Double Your Gas Mileage Now - Run Your Car On Water

Automobile fuel economy, gas saving devices, tips to save gas, and even free gas is on the minds of people today. Why? Gas prices are at historic highs, and people are reeling from the pain. What can we do? Drive our cars using water as fuel, or at least partially.

Years ago it was discovered that that you can make cars run on both water and gasoline. This is accomplished through a process called electrolysis. This is where water is converted into hydroxy also known as browns gas or HHO gas. Using the HHO gas you can expect to see an increase in gas mileage of 20% - 50% and with more tweaking up to 100%! This is due to the fact that the small hydrogen atoms ram into the over sized droplets of gas; thus breaking them down and making them burn more efficient. Did you know that the engines in most of our cars are so inefficient that we only use 20% of the gas? Yeah 80% of the gas is wasted and thrown into the air to make good old pollution. Now you know why we have catalytic converters!

This is something that I have implemented and swear by. I have a 1990 Lexus LS 400. It has a V8 and demands Premium gas. My car used to knock (on regular), and the exhaust smelled very bad. For a V8 it didn't do too bad 18.5 city 23.5 HWY. But now it is in the high 20's city and pushing 30 HWY. But that's not all, you get more power, less or no pinging, and no more bad smell out of the tail pipe! What I will do in the near future is take my car to a smog station and do a comparison, a before and after. What I want to see is just how much better the emissions are. With that much-reduced smell there has to be an improvement. I did talk to the place that does my smog testing and they are cool with it. I might make a video of it.

I'm very excited about this. I have spent loads of time researching this subject, and have, what I believe to be the most detailed review of these programs. Each of the programs offers something different. Water 4 Gas for example offers great bonuses. One of them includes the plans to make a car that runs totally on hydroxy or HHO. On my review site I have various videos about people who have done just that. I guess that I will just tinker around and see what I can do to improve what I already have done. Trust me once you start it you will get the bug and start to make your own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

So then, are you sick and tired of being gouged at the pump? Would you like to have a cleaner running engine? Would you like to have more power with less pinging? Would you like to make far less pollution in the process? And would you like to have fun like me and build your own water-powered vehicle? 

"turning around on a music box that's wound by a key"
i need to know for something im doing at school

Musical: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Song: Doll on a Music Box/Truly Scrumptious

What do you see
You people gazing at me
You see a doll on a music box
That's wound by a key
How can you tell
I'm under a spell
I'm waiting for love's first kiss
You cannot see
How much I long to be free
Turning around on this music box
That's wound by a key
Yearning
Yearning
While
I'm turning around and around
What do you see

Yearning
(because I love you truly)
While I'm turning around and around)
