can i take the pins out of the chain (bike chain) with any other tool..can u use like a hamer and a screw driv

or does it have to be the chain tool?

I guess in theory you could, but do not do it. It would be like using a hammer to put in a screw (only example i could think of). You are more likely to damage the chain. Chains are $30 +/-, a chain tool, that will allow you to take a pin out and put a new one in, is about $10. Invest the money and get one. They are very easy to use. Also, you can get pins (and a link) that will allow you to break the chain apart and put it back together. I have used one for years and they work great. Great way of being able to clean the chain.
