To gauge the magnitude of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's popularity in his native Hawaii, consider this: following his death in 1997 (at age 38, attributed to his profound obesity), Kamakawiwo'ole's body lay in state in the state capitol, only the second person to receive such an honor. Kamakawiwo'ole's appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently passionate voice, which can float through higher registers with an ease that brings Johnny Mathis to mind. Several selections ("Ka Pua U'i," "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i," the sun-kissed "La 'Elima") feature Kamakawiwo'ole in a traditional mood, using only his ukulele to adorn the charm of his native lyricism. Others, such as the Jimmy Buffett-like "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man" add playful contemporary touches that suit Kamakawiwo'ole's style. Most touching are the string-backed laments that open and close the album, "Hawai'i '78 Introduction" and "Hawai'i '78," initially a reflection on his father's death, later on the passing of Hawaii's native culture. Best known is his medley "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World," which played over the closing credits of the film Meet Joe Black. --Terry Wood

Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection

From \Fingertips Part 2"""""" to """"""""Part-Time Lover"""
Like the Beatles' The Beatles 1, this rundown of Stevie Wonder chestnuts is merciless in cutting a huge list of classic tracks down to a single disc's worth of the most recognizable. Anyone who's treasured even one or two of these songs and yet never bought a Wonder record will be more than pleased with the acquisition of The Definitive Collection. These records continue to ring with importance and history, but more important, all except two or three remain fresh and capable of surprising even veteran fans. Those listeners may note, though, that Wonder is among the few performers who could release a retrospective containing 15 No. 1 R&B hits and still invite the complaint that the album felt incomplete--not least in explaining how the man transformed himself from a multitalented teenage hitmaker into the funk-pop visionary of Talking Book, Innervisions, and Songs in the Key of Life. --Rickey Wright

Released at a time when psychic auras, near-death experiences, and Kirlian photography were all the rage among early New Age proponents, Resurrection achieves a spiritual depth rarely found in Hollywood movies. In one of her finest performances, Ellen Burstyn stars as Edna McCauley, a transplanted farm girl who develops healing powers following an accident that left her widowed and paralyzed. Returning to her Kansas homeland, she attracts awe and controversy, performing healings while deflecting any pretense of religion. That's a risky position in the Bible belt, and even Edna's new beau Cal (Sam Shepard) responds with zealous incredulity, fearing what he can't understand while others embrace Edna with unquestioning faith. Through it all, Edna remains calmly resolute as the conduit of an extraordinary gift. Sensitively written by Lewis John Carlino (The Great Santini), Resurrection tenuously mixes spiritual significance with John Ford's homespun tradition, but for the most part it works: Burstyn superbly conveys Edna's heartfelt determination, and both she and stage veteran Eva LeGallienne (in a rare and final film performance, as Edna's grandma) deservedly earned Oscar nominations. The movie dares to suggest that miracles reside within everyone, and that pure grace will manifest itself in unexpected ways. To that end, Richard Farnsworth is warm and wise in a brief but perfect role; Burstyn's final scene with Roberts Blossom (as her disapproving father) is a heartbreaker; and the film ends with an act of compassion that brings the story full circle as an affirmation of life's greatest mysteries. --Jeff Shannon

Courageous

In this faith-based drama, four Georgia policemen struggle to contain the gang violence erupting in their community. After one cop suffers a terrible tragedy, he turns to devout religious faith to give him strength and peace, inviting his colleagues to join him in his beliefs and use them to better their lives, their families, and their crusade for justice on the streets. Alex Kendrick, Ken Bevel, and Angelita Nelson star. 129 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital Surround, Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1, Thai Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai; audio commentary; featurettes; deleted scenes; outtakes; bloopers; more.
What is the true mark of a man? The male stars of the moving sleeper hit Courageous are all sheriff's deputies in a small Georgia town, putting their lives on the line every day. Yet as Courageous deftly shows, the true measure of a man's courage and heart lies in the daily choices he makes, especially as a husband and father. Courageous is a film that examines faith, commitment, and the preciousness of life. If that sounds simplistic, Courageous, made by the same filmmakers who made the Christian film Fireproof and others, is in fact mostly nuanced, sophisticated, and very well acted. Directed by Alex Kendrick, who also cowrote the screenplay with his brother Stephen, and who costars as well, Courageous blends believable action scenes and drama with just enough comedy to keep things from being ponderous. The opening sequence, in fact, is one of the best car-chase scenes in recent film memory--and the "reveal" at its conclusion will bring tears to viewers' eyes. In fact, Courageous is a weeper of a film, but only because its message is so true and deeply felt. Each of the four deputies--played by Alex Kendrick, Ken Bevel, Kevin Downes, and Ben Davies--wrestles with choices big and small, and finds his faith tested in the darkest of times. Courageous is an excellent faith-based film suitable for teens and older (there's a death in the film that may be disturbing to very young viewers, though it's handled off-screen). The Blu-ray disc contains lots of extras, including a thoughtful commentary with Alex and Stephen Kendrick, a making-of featurette that's as inspiring as the film, outtakes, and a hilarious short called "Courageous in 60 Seconds" that underscores that the filmmakers have an all-important sense of humor. Anyone seeking a quality faith-based film experience will be enormously moved by the heart of Courageous. --A.T. Hurley

Jesse Stone: No Remorse

Suspended from his job, troubled police chief Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck) leaves his home in Paradise, Massachusetts, to help out a friend by investigating a string of murders in Boston. As he attempts to deal with his own demons and the repercussions of his actions, Stone must also stop the mobster responsible for the Beantown slayings. Kathy Baker, William Devane, Stephen McHattie co-star. 87 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English.
No Remorse, the sixth entry in the made-for-TV series of Jesse Stone mysteries featuring Robert B. Parker's small-town police chief, is another satisfying blend of detective thrills and character drama, anchored by coproducer-cowriter Tom Selleck's typically fine turn as Stone. Picking up shortly after the events of the previous Stone film, Thin Ice, the action finds Stone struggling with suspension from the force and his alcohol issues; intervention from old friend Commander Healy (Stephen McHattie) gets him back on his feet and on the trail of a serial killer preying on young men. Stone and his deputies (Kathy Baker and Kohl Sudduth) uncover a trail that leads them to Boston mob boss Gino Fish (William Sadler), whose secret past may uncover the guilty party. Meanwhile, Stone has to deal with a rash of convenience store robberies that have turned deadly, as well as his ex-wife and relationship issues with his new dog, Reggie. Though the tone is a bit darker than previous Stone features, and the resolution of the convenience store subplot somewhat rushed, the performances, led by Selleck and abetted by an all-pro supporting cast (which includes William Devane as Stone's shrink and Saul Rubinek as the hapless Hasty Hathaway), are engaging, and the direction by Robert Harmon top-notch. Sadly, No Remorse was the last Jesse Stone film to see production during Parker's lifetime, but under Selleck's stewardship, fans can rest assured that Jesse Stone will continue in good hands. The widescreen DVD offers no extras. --Paul Gaita

Fireproof

This moving Christian-themed drama follows the spiritual evolution of a troubled firefighter (Kirk Cameron) disillusioned with his marriage. Taking the advice of his father, the emotionally unstable (and agnostic) man begins a rehabilitative self-help program that leads him to a profound religious awakening and a deeper connection with his loved one. Erin Bethea, Ken Bevel co-star. 118 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, French; audio commentary; deleted scenes; featurettes; interview; more.
A feel-good drama, Fireproof has a strong agenda: stay married, lead an honest life, and let your faith in a higher power help guide you. A still boyish-looking Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) stars as Caleb Holt, a mercurial-tempered firefighter whose marriage is on the rocks. He clearly enjoys his status as a hero, but it comes at the expense of his marriage. His wife Catherine (Erin Bethea) is tired of the distance and wants him to make more of an effort at home, rather than surf porn on the Internet and hoard his earnings toward his dream fishing boat instead of helping out her disabled mother. Faced with impending divorce, Caleb's dad challenges him to follow the "40-day love dare," in which each task (cook her dinner, say nothing negative, etc.) is meant for him to better understand love and commitment and try and win his wife back. The third film by brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, Fireproof is the siblings' most polished feature. Cameron does a fine job of making Caleb real and believable, even when we're not always liking him. Though saddled at times with maudlin lines, Cameron adds emotion and range to his role. There is a not so subtle theme that the Holts--who at the beginning of the film are agnostic--needed religion to save their marriage. Clearly, Fireproof believes in its agenda and was made with the Christian audience in mind. Whether secular audiences will fall under its spell as well is debatable. But no one should walk away from the film offended. --Jae-Ha Kim Stills from Fireproof (click for larger image)

What is Life Coaching, Really?
Life coaching is often touted as ‘one of the best methods’ for improving your life. With enough of it, some people say, you could make the changes that you’ve wanted for so long. But none of that answers one very simple question: what is life coaching?
What is Life Coaching?
Athletes have sports coaches, singers have voice coaches and orators have speaking coaches, all for a single reason – they want to improve their performance in their respective fields. So if you want to improve your performance in day-to-day life, life coaching is the way to go.
So what is life coaching? It’s essentially a program where you have a third party – a life coach – help you form and carry out decisions that will affect your life in a big way. That doesn’t just mean buying a new car or changing your address; it involves how you perceive yourself and the process you use for identifying and implementing improvements. A life coach will also help you deal with problems as they come along. Real life coaching looks at your life from many aspects and perspectives to help you spot improvement possibilities you might not even have been aware of.
The Role of Life Coaches
Life coaches are the critical elements in the life coaching process. After all, what is life coaching without the coach? Project-Transform life coaches will help you identify specific areas of your life that you want to improve and then assist you in developing methods for implementing those improvements. Now, it has to be clarified that life coaches aren’t psychologists or shrinks, even if they sometimes use techniques from either profession. Their role in the life coaching process is to give a new point of view when you begin examining your life. You will be surprised at some of the insights your life coach will provide you.
Once your improvement areas have been outlined, your life coach will also help you to design an action plan for implementing and sustaining your improvements. The plan will initially address creating space in your life for better enjoying the present moment and for building a foundation to facilitate making larger improvements in the future. As you get your life more under control, your life coach will help you expand your action plan into a life plan that provides a roadmap for what you want to achieve with your life. Your life coach will be a resource for you as you implement your improvements to ensure that your actions are as productive as possible.
Life Coaching Realities
The Project-Transform life coaching process focuses on helping you improve your life immediately. However, life coaching is not some three-day seminar that you complete and forget about. Using life coaching to improve your life is a long-term and continuous process of self-discovery and change. And it all starts with you.
The coaches and the sessions can only show you the road to change and help you stick to it. You have to walk the road yourself, putting one figurative foot in front of the other. It’s not easy, but it’s the best route towards lasting change in the way you live your life. If you’ve ever felt lost or confused about your direction before, a coaching session can be the most helpful place to start.

Are you enjoying the beautiful struggle called life?
Iam,i feel great cause everyday of my life is getting easier because of ME. I'm making my life better day by day and the struggle is slowly, but surely disappearing! It's gonna get boring when all the struggle is gone cause i'm enjoying knowing the unexpected!
It's like when you play a video, you're excited to know the storylines and what's gonna happen and when you finish the game it's boring, especially when you play through it again cause you know what's gonna happen...
It's sounds like you are overcoming some big things and I hope it wasn't too painful but see you are going to be victorious. Is this a faith walk or just you only? I believe in faith in Jesus Christ.
Not easy living this life. I've been handicapped all my life so it has been tough but I'm happier than I ever was now that I'm retired. Praise God. The Lord has given me something to do with my life and I no longer have people breathing down my neck as before when it was unpleasant. The Lord can lift us up! Praise God.
Technology promises a safer, more convenient community life
It's time to live a smart life. At least for the residents of Magnolias housing estate.
