Another great place to shop for Broadway Beatles products is Amazon. They have more than just books! Here are some more information for Broadway Beatles: The modern musical owes everything to Gilbert and Sullivan, the originators of the light but artistically outstanding operas that bear their names. As with most musical comedy writing teams, they had their ups and downs, but managed to make the best of it through fourteen hit shows in the late 1800's. Then came The Gondoliers, the last show on which they happily collaborated. In modern terms, they had reached the pinnacle of Broadway-like success. The Savoy Theater in London had been built expressly for their shows by entrepreneur Richard D'Oyly Carte (quite a name, eh, what?) But during the run of Gondoliers, the librettist Gilbert discovered that many renovations to the theater were being charged to Gilbert and Sullivan rather than to theatre owner D'Oyly Carte himself, as they properly should have been. The most outrageous example was a very expensive new rug for the Savoy Theater lobby, which was inexplicably billed to Gilbert and Sullivan, who were in no way responsible for the upkeep of the Savoy Theater. But the crafty D'Oyly Carte had the money deducted from the royalties for their operas, which he handled and doled out to Gilbert and Sullivan. Gilbert became enraged, and when he sued D'Oyly Carte for the renovation money, his partner, the composer Sullivan, refused to side with Gilbert. But there was secret reason that Sullivan did not want to sue D'Oyly Carte. Sullivan's grand opera, Ivanhoe, was soon to be premiered, produced by D'Oyly Carte in a lavish new opera house built especially for Sullivan's opera. This led to a feud between Gilbert and Sullivan that lasted for many years. Sullivan's opera, Ivanhoe, proved to be a failure in the long term, and eventually Gilbert and Sullivan were reconciled briefly to write two more shows, both lackluster and neither one a hit. I'm a junior in HS, and am having such a hard time choosing what song to sing for an upcoming variety talent show. I'm a mezzo-soprano/high soprano but I'm very comfortable singing in my chest voice, probably more comfortable. I wanna do something that's not gonna be sung by everyone. I am open to all suggestions... I would prefer some Broadway (nothing too high, please), classic rock (EX: The BEATLES), and I would prefer to sing a ballad, but nothing TOO slow.. moderate tempo but nothing too fast. No Miley/Selena/Demi. Thanks<3
