Two centuries after their upstart American colonies showed them the door, the British returned--first to rescue American pop music from the cuddly clutches of manufactured mannequins who'd squandered the promise of Elvis, and then to dominate it well into the '70s and '80s. The irony of this triple-disc, 54-track anthology is that the Beatles, who spearheaded the charge, are barely represented (except for a spate of successful Lennon-McCartney covers, including several the Fabs never recorded), and their shaggier, bluesier rivals the Stones are completely absent. That said, the remaining tracks do a fine job chronicling the Brits' savvy, loving assimilation (and revitalization) of virtually the entire spectrum of American pop music, from Tin Pan Alley and Dylanesque folk to swinging saloon singers and bracing proto-punk. It slightly shortchanges the blues-rock and psychedelia that would become the dominant forces of '70s rock, but generously offers some more obscure chart gems in their place. A solid digital remastering has also worked wonders on many of the tracks. --Jerry McCulley

One of the brightest nuggets from Disney's golden age, this 1937 film is almost dizzying in its meticulous construction of an enchanted world, with scores of major and minor characters (including fauna and fowl), each with a distinct identity. When you watch Snow White's intricate, graceful movements of fingers, arms, and head all in one shot, it is not the technical brilliance of Disney's artists that leaps out at you, but the very spirit of her engaging, girl-woman character. When the wicked queen's poisoned apple turns from killer green to rose red, the effect of knowing something so beautiful can be so terrible is absolutely elemental, so pure it forces one to surrender to the horror of it. Based on the Grimm fairy tale, Snow White is probably the best family film ever to deal, in mythic terms, with the psychological foundation for growing up. It's a crowning achievement and should not be missed. --Tom Keogh Stills from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Click for larger image)

Cue the Henry Mancini music and watch out for Cato--the gist of the Pink Panther series has been gathered in a six-disc boxed set. At the center of it is Peter Sellers's incarnation of inspector Jacques Clouseau, a hopelessly bumbling detective with a genius for resting his hands in the wrong place (on the surface of a spinning globe, for instance) and mangling the English language. Writer-director Blake Edwards cast Peter Ustinov as Clouseau in The Pink Panther, but Ustinov dropped out just before shooting began. Edwards (who recounts this story in a spotty commentary track included here) and Sellers bonded over their affection for Laurel and Hardy, and immediately transformed the character of Clouseau into a walking sight gag. The first film has a delicious swinging sixties vibe, while jewel thief David Niven, Claudia Cardinale, and Capucine occupy as much screen time as Sellers. Sellers really hits his stride in A Shot in the Dark, an elegantly funny tale of Clouseau sleuthing out a murder investigation. This one introduced Herbert Lom, as the increasingly frazzled Inspector Dreyfus, and Burt Kwouk, as Clouseau's houseboy-nemesis Cato. Sellers and Edwards, whose relationship was stormy, put Clouseau aside for over 10 years, until a trilogy of mid-1970s comedies restored the character to commercial (and dare we say cultural) primacy. Unfortunately, the very funny comeback picture, Return of the Pink Panther, is absent from this set due to rights issues with the studios involved. The Pink Panther Strikes Again has Dreyfus going bananas and targeting Clouseau; Revenge of the Pink Panther puts Clouseau in a hilarious series of disguises, climaxing in a wonderfully mounted sequence in Hong Kong. (Throughout the series, the calm, classical staging of gags by Blake Edwards reminds you of what a lost art this has become.) Trail of the Pink Panther looks better now than it did when originally released in 1982, shortly after Sellers's death; it's a batch of unused Sellers routines from previous pictures, strung together with a loose plot. In other words, it's a "deleted scenes" extra, and quite funny at times. Subsequent efforts Curse of the Pink Panther and Son of the Pink Panther are neither included nor mentioned. A half-hour documentary gives pleasant memories from Edwards, but feels incomplete. The cartoon Panther gets his own 11-minute mini-doc, plus six cartoon shorts including the Oscar-winning "The Pink Phink." --Robert Horton
The bumbling, hilarious Inspector Clouseau is back on the case in this collectable giftset boasting five classic comedies, a bonus DVD and the incomparable comic genius of Peter Sellers! Includes: The Pink Panther, A Shot in the Dark, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Revenge of the Pink Panther, Trail of the Pink Panther, bonus disc. In these cartoons released between 1928 and 1935, Walt Disney created one of the icons of 20th-century culture. Disney's reputation was built on these early shorts, and the films shimmer with the energy of the young artists exploring the new medium of the sound cartoon. Watching the films in chronological order enables the viewer to see the remarkable progress Walt and his crew made in animation, storytelling, and acting in just seven years. The rambunctious, rubbery Mickey of "Plane Crazy" and "Steamboat Willie" quickly developed into the polished charmer of "Gulliver Mickey" and "Mickey's Orphans." More than 70 years after his debut, the black and white Mickey still displays the appeal that made him so popular during the '30s, when A Mickey Mouse Cartoon appeared on theater marquees with the feature titles, and his fans included Franklin Roosevelt, Mary Pickford, George V of England, the Nizam of Hyderabad--and the more than one million children who joined the first Mickey Mouse Club. Although it's fun to look at the old sketches and pencil tests, the high point of the supplementary material is the discussion host Leonard Maltin conducts with Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, the last surviving members of the justly celebrated "Nine Old Men" of Disney animation. Thomas and Johnston were nearly 90 at the time of the interview, but their enthusiasm for their work, for Mickey, and for the man who made it all possible remains undimmed. Anybody who struts around with Simba's hard-won authority deserves this royal DVD read-along from Disney. Kids can recoil at Uncle Scar's dastardly deeds en español and discover that "hakuna matata" sounds pretty much the same in Spanish, French, Italian, or German. And should the dynamic storytelling fail to thrill your 4- to 12-year-old fan, a flurry of other interactive options await. Toggle to "Songs" for sing-along renditions of movie hits, including "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," and on to "Music Videos," where Elton John roars soundtrack favorites "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M groove to "Hakuna Matata." The "Vocabulary" feature allows for see-and-say mastery of a list of wildlife, while the "Game" section allows players to match paw and hoof prints to the proper beast and reassemble the scattered skeletal remains of an elephant. Original cast voices are featured, and grownups will be pleased by the package's reading component. --Tammy La Gorce

Here are some more information for Boxed Pin:

How to Choose a Jewelry Box
It's that time of year when a young man's fancy turns to, "What am I gonna get my girl for Christmas?!" While jewelry is the typical choice, a jewelry box can be an equally pleasing gift. It's a little out of the ordinary, but buying your special someone a jewelry box shows that you've put a little extra effort into her gift.
A couple of things to remember: First, much like jewelry, this is an area where quality counts. A cheap, flimsy box with the wrong kind of lining can actually make jewelry tarnish faster. You want to find a sturdy box, preferably solid wood, with a fabric lining. There are also smaller boxes of glass or ceramic that might be good for teens, but buying anything other than wood for a woman's large collection of jewelry is just asking for trouble.
Second, don't limit yourself to the boxes carried by the jewelry store where you bought her last piece of jewelry. There are many woodworkers all over the United States who are handcrafting jewelry boxes. These boxes are usually sold through local gift stores and not through jewelry store chains. In addition, art galleries often have beautiful boxes, and of course you can find them online.
But what kind of box should you get? There are still many options available among the styles of wooden jewelry boxes, jewelry chests and jewelry racks. Just answer these three questions to find that perfect box for your perfect mate:
How much jewelry does she have?
A big collection of smaller pieces like earrings and rings calls for a large box with several smaller compartments — think two or three drawers with dividers inside. A smaller collection might benefit from a jewelry rack instead of a box. A jewelry rack can be placed on a dresser or hung on a wall to save space. Some racks revolve to make access to jewelry easier. Even if the her jewelry collection grows later on, a jewelry rack will come in handy for her favorite -- and thus, most often worn -- pieces.
What type of jewelry will she put in it?
If she has plenty of necklaces and just a few earrings you could get by with a necklace rack to hang necklaces and a small box for the earrings. Having chunkier bracelets and pins, however, means that a box with larger, more open compartments may be in order. Many jewelry boxes now have areas for specific types of jewelry: soft slots for rings, side compartments to hang necklaces and bracelets, even long compartments to lay out watches.
How do you want the box to fit in with the home's other furniture?
Most people make the mistake of thinking that a jewelry box always has to match the furniture in the room. When we show customers the exotic wood jewelry boxes in our stores, many of these customers inevitably say, "But my bedroom furniture is Oak...that box won't match!" When you choose a box that accents your furniture instead of matching it, you allow the craftsmanship of the box and the beauty of the wood to stand on its own. The box becomes a showpiece in the room instead of blending into the other woodwork. Also, remember that the jewelry box you buy today can be a timeless display of craftsmanship that passed on to future generations as an heirloom.
One more thing: It's bad luck to give someone an empty box as a gift. Adding a new piece of jewelry to the inside of the box will make your gift complete!

How do condoms get pin-point sized holes in them?
I recently have been nagged by the thought that I usually check a condom thoroughly after I do the dirty...ie. squeeze the removed condom to see if any bubbles out of a small hole.
Last time I did not though it obviously wasn't broken. I know a drop of sperm can impregnate a woman, and since I missed a pill a day before I used the condom just in case. However, I am scared that it might of had a pinpoint puncture even though it was in a box, a week new etc.
I don't have any symptoms (normal period, and negative tests) after it being 6 weeks ago since I did the dirty, but I still would like to know how possible is it that a condom would be sold having a PINPRICK sized hole?
Or those punctured condoms stories more often caused by someone in the relationship (no my bf & I def don't want kids)?
How likely is it that new condom would have a puncture?
i have heard only one story like this from my best friend. it was her boyfriend(a crappy one) that got her pregnant by poking holes in the condom. i havent heard of any other TRUE stories about girls getting pregnant from a faulty condom! i think you will be ok...
