Ways to Save on Halloween
Store owners understand that your budget doesn’t stretch as far as it used to. As a result, you can find some great deals and discounts if you shop around. Costumes: any great Halloween starts out with a fantastic costume.
Here’s how to put together your best costume yet…on a budget
Clean out those closets: for packrats and people who just haven’t gotten around to clearing out their closets since, oh 1967, this can be a goldmine. You can put together a Goth look, a “this is how I dressed in high school†look, a celebrity look or maybe even 1940s look depending on whose closet you raid and how outrageous their fashion sensibilities are/were.
Shop costume sales and discount stores: you can find a lot of great costumes and accessories at your local thrift shop or dollar store. Keep an eye out for things like top hats, crazy hats, canes, vintage shoes and other funky accessories – all for just a few dollars. Several online stores are also currently holding big sales, some of them at up 50% off their regular prices – check out these costume discounts.
Dressing the kids: dressing up the kids can be easy, cheap and fun. If you’re low on time, make sure you check out online stores with sales on kids’ Halloween costumes. If you’re feeling crafty and have a little artistic flair, go June Cleaver and make their costumes yourself! It is not as difficult as it seems – you can find several great patterns and ideas if you search for “make your own Halloween costumes†in Google.
Most of these projects do not require more than a few hours and use materials that you probably already have around the house (old sheets, poster board, etc.). Recycle and reuse: Trade clothes with your best friends and be each other for Halloween, trade costumes with other parents if your kids are roughly the same size - there’s no reason that Halloween costumes can only be worn once.
* Ways to save on decorations
Depending on how many little monsters are in your neighborhood, you might have a lot of candy-giving to do. If this is the case for you, make sure you buy in bulk at a warehouse store; if you’re looking to go a little more gourmet or find a special chocolate treat for that special someone, checkout these chocolate, candy and nuts coupons.
Instead of edible treats, you can also choose to give out favors and toys. There are multitudes of online stores that sell favors and toys cheaply and you’ll be able to find great little treats such as plastic spiders, stickers and Halloween pencils and erasers for $.05-$.50 per item rather than the higher prices that you pay for candy. The parents will also thank you for helping them limit the sugar little ghosts are consuming. If you’re having a Halloween party, there are many ways you can save on décor.
First, take a look outside your window – fall is a beautiful season and you likely will be able to find plenty of branches, pine cones and colorful leaves that can be arranged on tables, in vases to create centerpieces or hung on the walls.
Another cheap and easy way to decorate for a Halloween party is with lots of candles. Candles add a great atmosphere and come in amazing variety of colors, scents and sizes. Here are some good stores with jar candle coupons to start looking.
Finally, many party supply stores sell “Halloween packs†which saves you the hassle of buying things separately. Oftentimes the prices will also be lower than if you buy the items individually.
Most of all, remember to have fun! Halloween shouldn’t be a burden money-wise.

This looks like spam /phishing to me. I'm guessing if you follow the select method of payment link, you will find some option that requires you to provide a SSN, bank account info, or something else that the solicitor can use to steal your identity. Or, you may be prompted to download something that is a virus. Beware. Personally, I would just delete this & move on. If you really were owed a prize, you would have received something more official than a poorly written email.
Ska-punk looniness rules tonight at the Cabooze with Fishbone and the English Beat
Double bills don’t get much more caffeinated than Fishbone opening for the English Beat. I still remember getting a promo for the first Fishbone EP in the mail, showing two of the five members flying through the air in what looked like a decrepit attic or garage, clad in checkerboard-patterned kicks, postmodern zoot suits, tight T’s and a fedora or two, overdosed on teenaged hormones.
Thanks for visiting!
