Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1957 Television Production) Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1957 Television Production)
List Price: $19.98
Sale Price: $8.42

The DVD era has unearthed another treasure. For the first time ever, Julie Andrews's performance in the title role of the original 1957 television production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella is available to the public on home video. Cinderella was created as a Broadway-style television production with an original score from the creators of Oklahoma! and Carousel, featuring such songs as "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible," "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful," and "Stepsisters' Lament." Cast in the title role was the 21-year-old Andrews, at the time starring on Broadway in My Fair Lady (another Cinderella story of sorts), and the cast was filled out by a talented bunch of stage veterans (including Kaye Ballard, Edie Adams, Dorothy Stickney, and Stickney's husband, writer Howard Lindsay). On March 31, 1957, a then-record 120 million homes saw the program as it was broadcast, live and in color, but it was preserved only in black-and-white kinescope, i.e., by aiming a camera at a monitor during the broadcast. While this version probably looks better than we have any right to expect, the picture is still fuzzy black-and-white, which makes it a tougher sell for kids than the later color versions, 1965 with Lesley Anne Warren and the 1997 Disneyized version. But give older kids (say, 8 or so) credit for being able to look past the black-and-white picture and primitive effects and enjoy the charming songs, the excellent performances, and the prospect of seeing one of their favorite actresses play one of their favorite princesses. Fortunately, the DVD has also received the attention it deserves, with a new introduction by Andrews, a 20-minute featurette about the production, including interviews with many of the principals; Rodgers and Hammerstein's appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show a week before the broadcast; and a gallery of color photos of the production as well as promotional material, which included paper dolls of Andrews. --David Horiuchi

Believed lost since its one-night-only television broadcast in March of 1957, the original production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's made-for-TV musical features then-rising Broadway star Julie Andrews as the downtrodden young woman who, thanks to her fairy godmother, transforms into a beautiful princess in order to attend an elegant ball. Edie Adams, Jon Cypher, Alice Ghostley co-star. Songs include "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful," "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible," and more. 77 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; "making of" documentary; photo gallery; more.

Someone get Amy Adams on the Broadway stage, stat! She may not have the huge pipes that are supposed to be necessary for singers nowadays, but based on her sweet performance of three songs on this soundtrack, she gets a tune. Leaving aside High School Musical-style contemporary pop, Disney returns to its sources here, with a fairy tale set to a traditional-minded score by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.). The first three songs are loving, well-crafted homages to Disney classics, such as Cinderella and Snow White; tellingly, the lovely "Happy Working Song" (with lyrics by Stephen "Wicked" Schwartz) sounds like it could have been lifted from any number of Disney movies--and that's meant as a compliment. Carrie Underwood brings us back into the 21st century with the single "Ever Ever After", which in comparison feels a bit more anonymous. Menken also supplies several instrumental cues, often reprising themes alluded to in the songs, and James Marsden wraps things up with a hilariously straight-faced version of "That's Amore." --Elisabeth Vincentelli More from Disney Classic Disney: 60 Years of Musical Magic Disney's Greatest, Vol. 1 Disney's Greatest, Vol. 2 Disney's Fantasia Disney's Hercules Mulan Disney's Beauty and the Beast Disney's Sleeping Beauty Disney's Cinderella

Celebrate the enduring legacy of Elvis Presley with this 17-disc set that includes "Jailhouse Rock," "It Happened at the World's Fair," "Kissin' Cousins," "Viva Las Vegas," "Girl Happy," "Tickle Me," "Harum Scarum," "Spinout" (1966), "Double Trouble," "Stay Away, Joe," "Speedway" (1968), "Live a Little, Love a Little," "Charro!," "The Trouble with Girls (And How to Get Into It)," "Elvis: That's the Way It Is" (Special Edition), "Elvis on Tour," and "This Is Elvis." Encased in a special commemorative box fit for the King, this collector's set also includes a 40-page concert photo book and 10 reproduction memorabilia pieces.

The novelty backdrop of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair lends wonderful space-age scenery to this Elvis vehicle. The King co-stars with a pre-2001 Gary Lockwood as freelance pilots stranded in Seattle, where Elvis spends more time babysitting a little kid than panting after ostensible love interest Joan O'Brien. There's more plot than usual for a Presley picture, which in this case is not a good thing, and the songs are pallid, save "One Broken Heart for Sale." The real kick is the futuristic look of the World's Fair, as personified by Seattle's Space Needle and Monorail (both of which serve as backdrops for EP songs). Just three years out of the Army, Elvis's persona is thoroughly square and tame, ruffled only by the occasional comic double-take. And yes indeed, that is little Kurt Russell, future star of Elvis, kicking the King in the shins in a couple of scenes. --Robert Horton

Another of Disney's efforts to create a quickie animated feature film out of one of its daily TV shows, this one plays like a low-rent reworking of Aladdin. Still, with Scrooge McDuck (voiced by Alan Young) and nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, there's fun to be had. And that includes the genie (voiced by comic Rip Taylor) and the villains voiced by Christopher Lloyd and Richard Libertini. The plot centers on Scrooge's search for lost treasure; the kids come up with the magic lamp with the genie in it, which is sought by an evil magician. Everyone gets into the act of making wishes and seeing them come true, until the bad guy gets a hold of the lamp. Mostly for young viewers. --Marshall Fine

TREASURE OF THE LOST LAMP is the first full-length feature film starring Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webbigail Vanderquack! The Egyptian desert becomes a nonstop adventure zone as the DuckTales team pursues the legendary treasure of Collie Baba's ancient pyramid! When the daring ducks make off with the riches, little do they know there's a magic lamp among the gems ... a lamp with a wacky, wish-granting Genie inside. When Merlock, the evil sorcerer, follows them back to Duckburg, an incredible battle erupts over the lost lamp! But in the thrilling climax, Scrooge and the nephews learn a lesson far more valuable than even the world's greatest treasure!

A guilty, guilty pleasure, perhaps not one a left-wing feminist should be admitting to in public. Female boomers should recall yearly TV reruns of this Rodgers and Hammerstein production, featuring such delights as "Impossible" and "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" It may appear a bit stark to younger viewers, but part of the charm of this 1964 network TV special, a remake of the live 1957 telecast originally built around Julie Andrews, is its utter simplicity. An extremely young Lesley Ann Warren and Stuart Damon (of General Hospital fame) are joined by Ginger Rogers, Walter Pidgeon, and Celeste Holm. Warren is all sweetness and innocence without a hint of saccharine artificiality, while Damon is a clear-eyed romantic. This very handsome love story is a bit of an oddity, but worth owning just for the memorable score. --Rochelle O'Gorman

The favorite mystery game comes to the screen in a hilarious whodunit that challenges you to guess who killed Mr. Boddy. Was it Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, or Lesley Ann Warren? 96 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English; alternate endings; theatrical trailer.

Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), Clue is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and all the other usual suspects. A broadly comic cast play the sundry suspects gathered in a mansion to solve a murder, knowing that one of their numbers is the culprit. Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan, and Tim Curry are the best of the bunch, and the film is as lightweight an experience as a round of the game itself. Directed by Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny). The video release contains all three endings. --Tom Keogh

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Originally released as Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. --Rochelle O'Gorman

In Plain Sight: Season Two In Plain Sight: Season Two
List Price: $26.98
Sale Price: $14.63

After closing its debut season on a harrowing note, the crime drama In Plain Sight returns for a sophomore season filled with the same clever scripting and sharp performances built around its unique blend of action and dysfunctional family dynamics. Mary McCormack is again the short-fused, acid-tongued glue that holds the program and its cast of eccentrics together; having recovered physically, if not entirely in an emotional sense, from the kidnapping that ended the show's first season, her Mary Shannon, U.S. Marshal with the Federal Witness Security Program, returns to the double rigors of her job and her contentious family. Neither side gives her much time to breathe in season 2; Mary's cases with loyal partner Marshall (Fred Weller) include a persistent rabbi (Richard Schiff, McCormack's former West Wing costar), a witness (David Denman of The Office) who refuses to testify until his missing son is found, an elderly mobster (Martin Landau) who wants to attend his son's funeral, and a pot salesman who cannot appear in court without copious amounts of his own product. Meanwhile, an FBI agent (Will McCormack, Mary's real-life brother) is hell-bent on bringing down her wayward sister Brandi (Nichole Hiltz) for drug trafficking and murder--Brandi was the original target of the men who kidnapped Mary and killed two federal agents in the first-season closer. Add to the mix Mary's mom (the terrific Lesley Ann Warren), who's struggling with recovery from drinking, plus relationship troubles with boyfriend Raph (Cristián de la Fuente) and new office manager Eleanor (Holly Maples, wife of series creator David Maples), who clashes with Mary at every turn, and the result is another collection of smartly written and frequently exciting episodes that, in many ways, surpasses the best of the first season, even in its closing cliffhanger. Said wrap-out was one of many controversies that swirled around the show in season 2; clashes with the network over the handling of the finale led to Maples and co-executive producer Paul Stupin--the show's guiding forces--leaving the program, which was then re-tooled to focus more on Mary's work and less on her family. It's an unfortunate decision that robs the show of much of its color, so fans should appreciate what they can of that combination here. DVD extras on the three-disc set include commentary tracks for three episodes; Maples and Stupin are featured on "In My Humboldt Opinion," where they recap in detail their history of working on the show, as well as their appreciation for the cast. McCormack and Weller handle two episodes--"A Frond in Need" and "Who's Bugging Mary"--with a lighter touch that focuses on their performances. Deleted scenes for eight episodes are actually moments that could have fit well into their respective shows, rather than the extraneous material that usually ends up on the editing room floor, while the gag reel combines the usual flubs with some moments of genuine humor. --Paul Gaita

All 15 episodes of the second season--including "Gilted Lily," "Rubble with a Cause," "Who's Bugging Mary?," "Jailbait," and "Don't Cry for Me Albuquerque"--are presented in a three-disc set. 10 2/3 hrs. total. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH); deleted scenes; gag reel. **15 episodes on 3 discs. 10 2/3 hrs.**

How To Use Attraction Marketing Strategies That Guarantee MLM Success

Before starting out in online network marketing most people like to know that it is a proven concept. Ann Sieg has provided network marketers with the template on how to utilize online attraction marketing strategies. Even better, she has also provided guidance on how to gain authority by standing out from the crowd.

By using the pulling power of the Internet you can work at attracting prospects to your business. This is the new age of prospecting in the MLM industry.

Probably the most worrying thing with Internet marketing is that you are always trying to find ways of growing your network marketing business without interaction with potential prospects.

This can lead to inevitable failure of your business. It doesn’t matter how much power the Internet has for attracting targeted prospected to you. If you don’t make the effort to interact with targeted prospects your business will start to suffer right from the start and your prospects will start to move on.

Simply by transferring your business to the Internet does not have to mean that you have to ignore offline relationship marketing strategies. They still apply.

Strategies To Optimize Attraction Marketing

Automating your marketing is acceptable. You may choose to write articles and submit them to article repositories to attract prospects to your funnel. This approach works quite well and provides a robust and steady way of sending your message to targeted prospects.

The way article writing works is that you write articles using a number of defined keywords. When somebody enters these keywords as part of their search criteria there is a good possibility that your article will be flagged in the search results.

Articles have a long life, in that once you have written them people will be able to locate you by going through the links in your resources box. If you offer them a download such as a report they will be included on your list. However, this doesn’t mean that you can just take it easy and relax. More work is to be done if you want them to think about joining your primary business.

Prospects still have no idea of who you are what you can offer them. What you need to do now is to start providing advice and training. This will ever so slowly convince your prospects that you can be trusted as they start to see that you are a genuine person.

The fact of the matter is, people have a need to communication with other people and develop a good trust relationship before think about joining a business.

These people need things proved to them once and for all. You can provide this proof by giving them a comprehensive range of advice and training. If you apply these strong attraction marketing strategies to your business, you will inevitably be successful.
