Dinner For Schmucks was a pure delight from first course to dessert. However, for those of you who don't know about its origins, here is a quick history lesson. The film was originally released in 1998 from French Director, Francis Veber's original "Diner de Cons" ("The Dinner Game").

Over the past thirty-plus years Veber has been one of the most prolific director of film comedies in France, and time and again, Hollywood has tried to recreate his magic with what translates into flat remakes lacking both humor and charm. You ask such as what and the answer is remember, "The Toy" (1982) with Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor, or "The Man With One Red Shoe" (1985), starring Tom Hanks? Add to these flops, Mike Nichols's "The Birdcage" (1996), and it's most famous predecessor, "La Cage Aux Folles" (1978).

So here we are back on our shores with a film from Paramount that is actually worth seeing this summer, other than Shrek. C'mon, so far this season, Paramount has played it safe with Iron Man 2, Shrek Forever, How To Train Your Dragon and we all want to forget their latest release Airbender? Lets talk about a company of risk takers, not! Two animated films in 3D, two sequels and hopefully the last film we will see from M. Knight putting that last nail in his coffin. I envision Stephen King quietly laughing to himself when he saw the trailer for that one.

Today's dinner didn't upset my stomach and quite frankly tasted great. I can't believe that a comedy was finally released without breasts, scenes filled with illicit drug taking or shock humor. Paramount (DreamWorks) needed to flex some summer muscle after coming off Airbender and their slew of play it safe releases. So they did what they do best and played it safe again.

By using all the right ingredients this film won't knock Inception out of first place at the box office but leaves us with a few hours of pure fun. Teaming up Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, two of the most likable actors in Hollywood today was a great move. A reunion of sorts from the 40 Year Old Virgin. Since that time Carrell has become the hottest comedian in the world and Rudd has secured himself as the role of a modern-day Carey Grant, playing the eternal all around nice guy each time out. Other than Judd Apatow and his group there aren't many directors/producers who can be relied on to make a good comedy. However, Apatow is best known to grab his laughs any way he can and that includes a lot of the hard-R shocks mentioned above.

On the other hand Schmucks, directed by Jay Roach provides the audience with clean humor and pure silliness. Think back to Meet the Parents/Fockers, all three Austin Powers movies and you start to see the trend. On the horizon for Roach watch out for Austin Powers 4, Used Guys (starring Jim Carey and Ben Stiller) as well as a remake of a Peter Sellers comedy called The Party.

Dinner For Schmucks is the story about Carell who plays a Schmuck named Barry who is a complete walking disaster. He is a taxidermist who creates historic shoebox scenes using the bodies of dead mice when he is not working at the IRS. He meets Tim (Paul Rudd) as he is crossing the street and run over by Tim.

All Tim wants out of life is to marry his girl friend and get a promotion that will bring him and his assistant up the executive floor to work along side his boss played by Bruce Greenwood. Tim finds a way to bring in a new client and by doing so is invited to Greenwood's secret Dinner party. Each executive employee who is invited needs to bring along a twit. The best twit wins a prize and leaves without knowing that they are the companies best kept secret also know as funniest living joke.

Although this can be looked at as a mean premise, it works well due to the fact that Rudd doesn't necessarily agree with this dinner plan. In addition, his role is that of a ticking time bomb whose road to promotion is quickly slanted off course each time he has an interaction with Carrell.

The success of any movie formula is created with a foundation of a great supporting case. Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) is a dead ringer for Aldous Snow and could play his brother, if there were to be a Get Him To The Greek sequel. He plays a successful artist who only wants to make Rudd's girlfriend his own. Zach Galifianakis on the runway to follow in the footsteps of Carrell (with a quick rise to the top), plays his boss and nemesis. He also happens to think he has the ability of mind control and happens to be married to Carrell's very fat ex-wife. Lucy Punch hands down gets the gold for her role as the love struck stalker who can't control an emotion. Her scenes happen to be some of the funniest and outrageous in this film. Other than the dinner scene, the lunch meeting also packs a few very funny surprises.

Of course, with a story like this it can only lead to an over the top climax (the actual dinner) and a feel good ending where only one thing can happen and the nice guy (Rudd) gets the girl. This dinner is the equivalent of getting hit by feathers for a few hours. No profanity, boobs just silly humor. The cast is smart, the script is well written and Roach doesn't take any cheap shots, although there were plenty of chances to go for the shock rather than the laugh. In a summer of glut this Dinner is a welcomed feast. However, it would be a wonderful invitation released at any time during the year.

The game is more popular than the ads.The five biggest Super Bowl moments outscored the five biggest ads Sunday, when measured by audience spikes and how many folks using TiVo rewound the action to watch it again.TiVo said Monday that the top moment of Super Bowl XLIV was Tracy Porter's fourth-quarter interception of Peyton Manning that was returned for a touchdown. The next four biggest moments of the game were a failed would-be touchdown pass by the Indianapolis Colts, a New Orleans Saints penalty that moved the Colts half the distance to the goal line, a dropped pass by Reggie Wayne of the Colts and Saints coach Sean Peyton's postgame Gatorade drenching. In aggregate, those "game" moments were more popular than the top five commercials."House Rules" from Doritos was tops in the ad category.

The spot has a little boy telling his mother's date to keep his hands off her, and off his Doritos.Snickers' "You're Not You When You're Hungry," with Betty White getting tackled, was second, followed by the controversial Focus on the Family ad starring Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow tackling his mom.Halftime with the Who seemed to be a hit; it didn't quite measure up to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band last year but was close.TiVo used a different method This Year to calculate the Super Bowl's "most engaging" game moments and commercials, determined by looking at viewership bumps relative to the surrounding 15 minutes of programming.

That way, commercials in the fourth quarter have no advantage over those in the third, for example, even if more viewers were tuned in for the fourth quarter.TiVo did not include the short promo that featured David Letterman, Jay Leno and Oprah Winfrey in its commercials category, but if it had, it would have been No. 2.No movie commercials came close to cracking the top 10. In fact, all were outperformed by an ad for a video game: "Dante's Inferno" from Electronic Arts. The two highest-scoring movies were from Universal: "Robin Hood" and "The Wolfman." Those were followed by Disney's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,"

Paramount's "Shutter Island" and Disney's "Alice in Wonderland.""Alice," though, scored better in a poll from MovieTickets.com, which determined that it was the "most memorable" movie commercial to air during the game, with 81% of 550 people polled remembering that they saw the ad.The MovieTickets.com poll ranked the other six movie ads as "Robin Hood," "Shutter Island," "The Wolfman," "Prince of Persia," "The Last Airbender" and "The Back-up Plan."

In Avatar: The Last Airbender the movie, when they?

When they make the sequel does anyone know who will be playing Toph? and did anyone see Appa in the superbowl promo, he looked bada**?

I think they're only making the movie based on Book One: Water, so Toph won't be in it :/ (she's introduced in Book Two: Earth)
And do you mean Appa or Aang? I didn't see Appa.
